It’s not the end of Blooping!

If you’ve ever spent time on Whatnot, especially during a fun birthday raid or high-energy show, then you know the sweet “bloop” sound that used to echo through the stream when someone sent a gift. That little sound meant more than just a transaction — it meant someone was being thought of, celebrated, or supported. Whether it was a $1 sticker or a carefully chosen collectible, gifting on Whatnot was a unique part of the community’s culture.
But recently, Whatnot removed the gifting feature, and it caught many of us by surprise. Gifting allowed buyers to purchase something through the “Buy It Now” (BIN) option and send it directly to someone else — not to themselves, but to another user on the platform or even someone who didn’t use Whatnot. This was used in a variety of ways: as random acts of kindness, for giveaways, as part of themed shows, and to help sellers reach their first 1,000 sales (a milestone many sellers strive to hit).
What Happened to Gifting?
When Whatnot first announced the removal, the initial reason given was that the feature wasn’t being used enough to justify keeping it. However, it later became clear that this wasn’t the whole truth. The real issue was much more technical — and expensive. The gifting script required Whatnot’s servers to track three separate users for a single transaction: the seller, the buyer, and the giftee. That additional load created strain on their system and increased costs, which ultimately led to the decision to sunset the feature.
And so, just like that, gifting — and the joyful bloop that came with it — disappeared from the app.
But Don’t Worry — Blooping Isn’t Over
While you can no longer gift items directly to another user through BIN, you can still help others in meaningful ways. Sellers working toward their 1,000-sale milestone can still benefit from people buying $1 stickers and other small items — just for themselves now instead of gifting. These little purchases still count toward total sales and help new sellers grow and get noticed.
Birthday and anniversary shows were especially lively thanks to gifting, as people from all over the Whatnot world would come together to celebrate someone with surprise items. That tradition doesn’t have to end either. Whatnot still offers the ability to send tips directly through a seller’s profile, so you can support a friend, favorite seller, or birthday honoree in a way that’s just as meaningful (and often more immediate).
And hey — no one says you can’t buy something yourself during a birthday show and shout out in the chat, “This one’s in your honor!”
What’s Next for Whatnot?
Though the loss of gifting is disappointing for many, Whatnot has said they’re working on new features to enhance community engagement and seller growth. Hopefully, those upcoming tools will provide even better ways to connect, celebrate, and support each other — maybe even bringing back the spirit of the bloop in a new form.
Until then, let’s keep the energy alive. Keep buying those stickers, shouting people out in chat, tipping your friends, and staying active in birthday raid trains and community events. Blooping might not sound exactly the same, but the heart behind it lives on.
Because it’s not the end of blooping — it’s just the start of a new way to show love.
